Green Line Update

The Government of Alberta has proposed a new elevated downtown alignment for the Green Line. The proposed elevated rail would travel east-west along 10th Ave and north-south along 2 St SW. It does not include an Eau Claire station, and involves an additional $1.3 billion in known costs. Click here for details about the proposed alignment and recent updates about the project.

Holiday Waste and Collection Day Changes

For the holidays, Wednesday blue, black and green cart pickup will move to Monday. Instead of the usual Wednesday pickup, your blue, black and/or green cart will be collected:

  • Monday, December 23
  • Monday, December 30

Only households with Wednesday cart collection is changing. All other households will have their regular pickup on their usual day. Regular Wednesday cart collection will resume on January 8, 2024.

Visit calgary.ca/collection to check your pickup schedule and to sign up for free reminders. Happy holidays!

Reduce, reuse and recycle right this holiday season.

The holiday season brings joy—and extra waste. Remember to reduce and reuse, and sort items into the right bins:

  • Blue cart: Recycle wrapping paper, cards, and boxes (loose).
  • Green cart: Compost bones, veggie peels, and napkins.
  • Black cart: Dispose of non-recyclable wrap, broken ornaments, and artificial trees.
  • Eco Centre: Drop off electronics, batteries, and other items.

For more information and tips, visit calgary.ca/holidaywaste.

After the holidays, don’t let those real Christmas trees go to waste.

Calgarians have two options to compost their real Christmas tree. For both options, all lights, ornaments, tinsel, string, and tree stands must be removed.

Option 1: Use your green cart –cut tree into small pieces to fit inside the green cart, making sure the lid can close.

Option 2: Bring to a tree drop-off location – available across the city from December 26, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Do not wrap or bag your tree. For a full list of locations visit calgary.ca/christmastree.
