BMO Centre at Stampede Park Welcomes the World to Western Canada’s Largest Convention Centre

$500M expansion officially opens its doors and puts Calgary on the map as a world-class convention destination

Following decades of planning and four years of construction, the over 1M sq. ft. Tier 1 convention facility opens its doors for the first time, not only creating an architectural landmark for Calgary, but making gatherings even greater with the ability to host a scale of convention the city hasn’t been able to previously accommodate.

Farm Stand Program

Get farm fresh food and support our farmers!

Support our farmers ✅
Connect with neighbours ✅
Enjoy great food ✅

This year, The Farm Stand Program has expanded to support nine incredible farm vendors to bring fresh fruits, veggies, and artisanal products, grown predominantly in Alberta and BC, to Calgary communities. The City of Calgary facilitates and supports about 30 farm stands, including six new locations.

The Farm Stand Program aligns with the CalgaryEATS! Food Action Plan and aims to address two problems in our food systems:

  1. Many Calgarians do not have sufficient physical or financial access to fresh, healthy and culturally appropriate food.
  2. Local and regional farmers, a critical part of resilient and sustainable food systems, face many barriers to success including getting their product to market or opportunities to sell directly to consumers.

Additional information including locations and schedules can be found at www.calgary.ca/localfood

Calgary Libraries

Shout out to the Calgary public library with some amazing stats:

✅Over 20,000 people visit our 21 library locations every day.

✅Over 38,000 people joined the library in Q1 of 2024, averaging out to 425 new library members each day.

✅At the end of Q1 2024 we had over 776,000 active members of the Library, which is over 56% of Calgarians.

If you don't yet have a Library card, now is the time - it is free and there are many other membership benefits.

The Ultimate Summer Challenge returns and the challenge runs from July 1 to August 31 - so be sure to sign up!

Lastly, check out their Land Acknowledgement, which includes audio and phonetic spelling!

Canada’s First Dementia-Inclusive Public Park

Parks Foundation is excited to announce a first-of-its-kind project, the Dementia Inclusive Park. This park will serve as a model of inclusivity for future park planning and outdoor spaces across our country and will be a meaningful public space for families impacted by dementia. Construction will begin in Spring 2025.

The new park will be located in Calgary’s southeast community of Dover, chosen for its proximity to Bethany Riverview, a highly specialized dementia care centre, as well as community support programs such as the Greater Forest Lawn 55+ Society, and the Women in Need Society (WINS). These organizations will be able to use the new park as a place to host programming for their residents and members.

$3,000,000 has already been raised, but we need your help. An additional $750,000 is still needed. The additional funding is vital to see the full project vision come to fruition and the long-term sustainability of the park.
